Craft and Structure
The Craft and Structure unit focuses in teaching and research on material and its assembly into a coherent structure. This interplay is examined at various scales, from design to full-scale construction, and tested in experimental prototypes. The specialised knowledge generated deepens the understanding of sustainably built and tectonically assembled architecture and its place within urban environments, agglomerations and alpine landscapes.

Under the workshop title «Gimme Shelter», 48 architecture students from Norway and Liechtenstein developed a series of temporary shelters.
After 24 years at the University of Liechtenstein, during which he influenced over 1,000 students, Prof. Urs Meister retired.
The research project Walz 4.0 is developing new models of collaboration between the crafts and higher education. As a kick-off for the practical formats, the workshop “1 Problem – 1000 Solutions” took place on 7 November 2025.
Student Antonia Trager reports on her project “Under the Roofs of Antwerp” on hochparterre.ch/campus. The project was developed as part of the Advanced Studio Craft & Structure: Antwerp Music Centre.
The Base Camp was sold to the city of Dornbirn and is currently serving as the clubhouse for SC Admira Dornbirn, which was affected by a fire. In the future, it will be used for citizen participation projects. The sale and transport were overseen by Wolfgang Schwarzmann.
The construction of the new Red Cube, an event pavilion for students, was started as part of an Erasmus+ workshop. The building will be completed by students by the end of the summer semester 2025. The project is led by Carmen Rist-Stadelmann and Prof Urs Meister.
Urs Meister and Carmen Rist-Stadelmann are part of the "International Conference for Structure and Architecture", taking place in July 2025 at the University of Antwerp.
Urs Meister and Carmen Rist-Stadelmann are leading the inaugural edition of the “Liechtenstein Studio” in the summer semester 2025, funded by the Guido Feger Foundation.

Hands-On
The Craft and Structure unit at the Liechtenstein School of Architecture follows a practice-oriented approach centred on full-scale (1:1) building. Students develop architectural designs together with local craftsmen and women, which are not only planned but also constructed by their own hands.
