Sustainable Finance and Investments

The teaching and research programme of the Chair in Sustainable Finance and Investments, represented by Assistant Professor Dr. Othar Kordsachia, focuses on the principles of sustainable corporate governance and finance, as well as on the effects of sustainability-oriented regulation on companies and capital markets. Particular emphasis is placed on the integration of social and environmental sustainability criteria in financial decisions and on examining different manifestations of sustainability in investment offerings.

In these areas, we are also pleased to act as a point of contact for transfer projects with practice.

The professorship’s research focuses on various issues in the field of sustainable financial markets and sustainable corporate governance, in particular:

Sustainability reporting and CSR risk management
Influence of sustainable institutional investors on corporate sustainability
Index construction for sustainable development
Capital market reactions to sustainability regulations

To ensure that society and the economy benefit from our research findings, scientific expertise and newly developed financial solutions, we place great importance on active knowledge and technology transfer.

In teaching, the professorship offers a broad portfolio of courses in finance and sustainable finance. Numerous theses on sustainable finance address practical issues. We also offer various professional education programmes, such as the Excel Power Workshop.

Our chair is strongly committed to research, as evidenced by numerous publications in leading academic journals (such as Journal of Banking & Finance, The European Journal of Finance, Journal of Risk Finance, Review of Managerial Science, Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment and Business Strategy and the Environment). Our research activities are complemented by regular conference contributions on international platforms such as the Conference on Sustainable Banking and Finance and the Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance Symposium.
