Abstract

Organizations have recognized the growing importance of Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the competitive advantage they can achieve with it. The establishment of a Supply Chain Center of Excellence (SCCoE) can support the centralized provision of high-quality SCM services. This paper presents a procedure model that can be used to improve how the demand for and the supply of SCM services are aligned. A portfolio management approach is used to position and compare SCM services and to identify specific growth strategies for each SCM service offered. Examples of such strategies are training and education programs, marketing initiatives, and stakeholder-specific information and communication. Secondary data is used to illustrate the practical relevance and applicability of the proposed approach. The results presented in this paper originate from the first author's Master's thesis, which was co-supervised by the other two authors.
