Technology prize
AIS has been conferring its Technology Challenge Award since 1995 on personalities who have performed outstandingly in the development of Information Systems as a discipline. It is particularly concerned to pay tribute to achievements in the development of innovative forms of technology. The technology prize is not awarded on a regular basis, only when nominations for the prize have been submitted and the international committee considers that a suitable candidate has been found. The last Technology Challenge Award was conferred in 2013 on Professor Michael Myers of the University of Auckland in New Zealand and Professor Stacie Petter of the University of Nebraska at Omaha in the USA. Now Professor Jan vom Brocke of the University of Liechtenstein has in turn received this coveted accolade.
The Technology Challenge Award was conferred on Professor Jan vom Brocke in recognition of his development of the web platform EDUglopedia.org – an international encyclopaedia for teaching courses in the field of Information Systems. Today the platform already provides a list of over 2500 courses from more than 500 teaching programmes, comprising over 300 institutions from 70 countries of the world. This makes EDUglopedia.org the world’s most comprehensive catalogue of study opportunities in the field of Information Systems, and it is being ever more widely used.
