Based on the 5 relevant megatrends in sustainability (see image below), the studio will search for answers for the different regions in Liechtenstein. The task will be to design interventions depending on the needs of each of the towns that linearly connect the country. The projects will be developed in three scales:
Urban
We will have as a base the outcome from Studio Brandl SS18, which was focused on urban proposals. Based on their findings and our own analyses we will propose specific programmes for the interventions.
Architecture
Grounded on the institute’s year topic “Upcycling” each of the students will have to find a strategic location for their project rethinking misused infrastructure, unused spaces, uninhibited structures, etc. Then, design a project that reacts to one or more of the megatrends.
Construction / Materialization
The construction has to be seen as the soul of the building, apart from being the main mean to control the energy outcome; it should give an added value to the buildings. Therefore different solutions that respond to the context will be sought and developed.
The fair distribution of the globe
This year we also want to explore sustainability from two perspectives the local and the global, having as a bigger picture the fair distribution of the globe. This semester we will act locally in this region; next semester (SS19) we will go abroad to understand the relevance megatrends from another perspective. The two semesters will complement each other, but they will have two different outcomes.
