Each year, the European Commission honours universities throughout Europe with a label for their exemplary implementation of the Diploma Supplement and the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which are important instruments of the Bologna Process. Prior to the label being awarded, the applications are evaluated by European experts. For the first time, the University of Liechtenstein has now been awarded the coveted Diploma Supplement Label, covering the years 2013 to 2016.
Academic mobility
The award is presented to institutions of higher education with a proven record of optimally implementing the Diploma Supplement, which is mandatory for universities within Europe. The Diploma Supplement offers employers, authentication centres and universities a clear, internationally comparable representation of an individual’s academic record, and makes for easier academic and professional recognition. It makes it possible to remain in step with the rapid changes in qualifications and education systems, and facilitates mobility, access to education, and lifelong learning.
International comparison
Professor Michael Hanke, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning, is pleased with the international label: “The awarding of this label is a recognition of the excellent standard to which we have implemented the Bologna Process, i.e. the standardization of European higher education. It shows that this process is being practised in particularly exemplary fashion at the University of Liechtenstein.”
As one of the few universities within the German-speaking area to receive the award, the University of Liechtenstein may now initially bear the Diploma Supplement Label until 2016.
