Liechtenstein Prize for Junior Researchers at the University of Liechtenstein

At the end of 2012, the first research prize from the Principality of Liechtenstein was awarded in Vaduz to junior researchers at the University of Liechtenstein. The 2012 prize was awarded in equal shares to three different projects: To Dr. Alexander Simons for his work entitled “Managing enterprise content in business processes”, and to Dr. Oliver Müller and Dr. Stefan Seidel for their work entitled “Leaving the Beaten Tracks in Creative Work – a Design Theory for Systems that Support Convergent and Divergent Thinking”. In addition, Dr. Susanne Durst and Stefan Wilhelm from the Institute for Entrepreneurship received a prize for “Knowledge management and succession planning in SMEs”.

New book series from Jan vom Brocke, Ulrike Baumöl and Reinhard Jung

Jan vom Brocke has launched a new book series at Springer-Verlag together with Professor Reinhard Jung from the University of St. Gallen and Professor Ulrike Baumöl from the University of Hagen. The series deals with the results of research carried out in the area of information systems and business engineering. The first book of the series, by Dr. Sabine Wilfing, has already been published and is entitled Management orgnisationaler Anpassungsprozesse (Management of organizational adjustment processes).

Exploring cultural fitness

A Culture Workshop was held at the University of Liechtenstein from 30 January to 1 February in connection with the research project “Culture in Business Process Management (BPM)”. A total of 12 representatives of 8 international companies and 8 scientists from 4 universities from around the world attempted, under the guidance of Jan vom Brocke and Theresa Schmiedel, to determine how an organization can be created to support process management in companies.

Research results presented at CeBIT in Hannover

Professor Jan vom Brocke and Andrea Herbst have published a new white paper in collaboration with the company Comarch AG. The paper was presented at CeBIT 2013 in Hannover, the digital world’s leading high-tech event. The white paper describes research results relating to enterprise content management, in particular an approach to individualized content auditing for companies. The presentation at the CeBIT stand of Comarch AG enabled the white paper to reach several thousand people.

A paper by Dr. Stefan Seidel entitled “On Emergence and Forcing in Information Systems Grounded Theory Studies: The Case of Strauss and Corbin” has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Information Technology (JIT), and will appear in September 2013. The JIT is one of the top journals within our discipline (the “Basket of Eight”). The paper deals with theoretical developments in the area of information systems research, and is co-authored by Professor Cathy Urquart of Manchester Metropolitan University. The success is also an indication of the intensive work being carried out by junior researchers at the Institute of Information Systems.


At the International Conference on Information Systems held in Leipzig form 27 February to 1 March this year, Sanja Tumbas and Dr. Theresa Schmiedel from the University of Liechtenstein won the Best Paper Award from the Student Consortium.
