With the 19th Jurisdiction Symposium on 22 May 2012, the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trust Law will present a lecture on the impact of the ratification of the New York Arbitration Convention in Liechtenstein on law enforcement.
The New York Arbitration Convention, which is valid in 146 states, came into force in Liechtenstein on 5 October 2011. As the most important international convention in the area of arbitration, it makes it possible to recognize and enforce decisions by foreign arbitral tribunals in Liechtenstein. The New York Arbitration Convention also serves to make Liechtenstein more attractive as a location of international arbitration, given that decisions made in Liechtenstein are enforceable almost worldwide. In addition to providing an introduction to the convention, the lecture at the University of Liechtenstein will also consider the extent to which Liechtenstein’s arrival on the playing field will lead to asset protection, and whether the goal of making Liechtenstein more attractive as a location of arbitration is a realistic one. The speaker, Dr. Dietmar Czernich (lawyer), is himself an arbitrator and an author of numerous publications on international arbitration law and law of civil proceedings.
