To analyze and describe business processes at the Institute for Social Services Vorarlberg and to propose potential ideas for improvement - that is the goal of a practical project of 20 students of the Master’s Program "Business Process Engineering" at the University of Liechtenstein.
To combine the life at the Institute for Social Services with a process structure - no easy task for the students, even if they are already on Master's level. It is a great challenge for the students to apply the knowledge acquired in the study on their own in a practical case study.
The practical project is part of the module "Business Process Analysis" of the Master's Program “Business Process Engineering. Director of studies and director of the Institute for Business Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein, Prof. Jan vom Brocke, underpins the great importance of such projects with regional partners for the students and the course of studies: “These kinds of projects provide an optimal combination of university education and practical application of knowledge. For the majority of students the branch of psychosocial services was previously unknown, what is an additional challenge in this project.” The Institute for Social Services (IfS) Vorarlberg is a service company, which offers counseling and support to people in psychological and social emergencies and crises.
At the end of October, the students have started in different groups to analyze and describe selected service areas, and to propose potential ideas for improvement. The IfS is enthusiastic about the project so far: "We hope that the process analyzes of the students will provide us the opportunity to further improve our services - especially through the use of new media," says Jürgen Deuble, Project Manager from the IfS.
End of January, the final report will be presented by the students at the University of Liechtenstein.
