On Wednesday, 12 October 2011, the University of Liechtenstein opens its doors to the interested public for the public inaugural lecture of Professor Christian Marxt, the Chair for Technology and Entrepreneurship.

Professor Christian Marxt has held the Chair for Technology and Entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein since September 2009. In his inaugural lecture titled “Industry without future? – The future of industry!” he examines the industrial sector’s role in terms of locational competition, and talks about the challenges and changes of technology entrepreneurship.

Liechtenstein in the global competition
The industrial sector in Liechtenstein and the neighbouring areas provides about half of all the region’s jobs and thus contributes significantly to its prosperity. The companies are facing global competition regarding markets, employees, technologies and innovations. These challenges were intensified by the financial crisis and its consequences for the real economy, which, after a short recovery, have manifested themselves in a decrease in turnover and profit due to market conditions and exchange rates. The inaugural lecture explores these challenges for technology entrepreneurship and shows possible solutions from scientific and practical perspectives.

In his inaugural lecture, Dr. Christian Marxt, Professor for Entrepreneurship, explores the challenges and changes of technology entrepreneurship in terms of international locational competition.

Internationally linked from Bangalore to Stockholm
Prior to his activities at the University of Liechtenstein, Professor Christian Marxt worked at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich for many years. After his studies in mechanical engineering and business administration, as well as his postdoctoral studies, he received his habilitation at the ETH Zurich in 2007. Professor Marxt teaches and researches both as a guest and contracted lecturer at numerous universities, such as the ETH Zurich, Stanford University, the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, the University of New South Wales in Sydney and Imperial College London.

Technology entrepreneurship as a study focus
In his position as a researcher, lecturer and consultant, he has specialized in the area of technology entrepreneurship. This comprises innovation management, in particular technology transfer and commercializing, the development of business models, product and production management, as well as project and industrial management. As a member of the Product Development and Management Association and the Design Society, he is well linked internationally. He also regularly advises and trains personnel at international technology-oriented companies and acts as an expert consultant in the field of politics.
