Representing the University of Liechtenstein, Theresa Schmiedel, doctoral student at the Institute of Information Systems, headed by Professor Jan vom Brocke, participated in the 9th International Conference on Business Process Management (BPM 2011).
This year, the annual event was held in Clermont-Ferrand, France, from 28 August to 1 September. At the conference, a platform for scientists and practitioners, many aspects of the topic of BPM were presented and discussed. Techniques for process modelling were included in the programme, along with questions regarding process-oriented thinking among employees.
In the scope of the Doctoral Consortium, Theresa Schmiedel presented her dissertation project on “Culture in Business Process Management”, which investigates the central question of what cultural requirements for organizations promote interdepartmental thinking directed towards better handling of customers. Subsequently, a lively exchange of opinions between renowned researchers and experienced practitioners from the area of business process management took place.
The Doctoral Consortium offers participants the opportunity to subject their doctoral projects to critical examination within an international context. “The feedback on my dissertation project which I received at the conference was extremely helpful and has reminded me that the topic is of very high practical relevance,” states Theresa Schmiedel.
