Since 2009, the Filmclub im Takino association and the Institute of Architecture and Planning at the University of Liechtenstein have been presenting an annual film series featuring selected works on the topic of architecture. This year, feature films as well as special documentaries related to architecture are to be presented.

The annual architecture film series starts on 11 October with François Truffauts science-fiction classic «Fahrenheit 451».

Feature films and architecture
The film series, which will start on Thursday, 11 October 2012, will commence with the 1966 science-fiction classic Fahrenheit 451. The only English film by the French director François Truffaut, about a society in which books were banished and people were appeased by television, portrays impressive images of modernist architecture. On 15 November, Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film Le Mépris (Contempt), a multi-layered satire about the film industry in Hollywood, provides an insight into the famous Capri villa owned by the German-Italian author Curzio Malaparte. The film is also seen as an homage to the avant-garde architecture of Casa Malaparte.

Christoph Schaubs internationally acclaimed shortfilm «Il Girasole»  will be presented on 18 October.

Architecture in documentaries
On 18 October, three short films by Christoph Schaub, Il Girasole, Brasilia and Das Vrin-Projekt, will be shown. Christoph Schaub made his name as the director of successful feature films such as Giulias Verschwinden and Sternenberg. However, the Zurich film-maker has also made documentaries on architectural topics. The short film Il Girasole is one of his major works and has also gained international acclaim. On 29 November, the documentary Dreaming of a tree house – Frei Otto’s ecological building project will be shown. In this film, Beate Lendt portrays the ecological houses by Frei Otto, an experimental residential project developed in the scope of the 1987 International Building Exhibition in Berlin, for which 18 individually designed houses were built on top of each other. On 13 December, the series in the Takino cinema will be concluded with Heinz Emigholz’s Parabeton, which presents 17 structures by the Italian engineer Pier Luigi Nervi, located in Italy and France.
