2013 Business-Plan Competition awards ceremony

On 11 June 2013, the 2013 Liechtenstein Rhine Valley Business-Plan Competition will come to a climax at the University of Liechtenstein. With prizes being awarded to the three best business plans, the winning teams will receive prize money of up to CHF 12,000.

Prizes for the region’s most innovative business ideas

On 11 June 2013, the 2013 Liechtenstein Rhine Valley Business-Plan Competition will come to a climax at the University of Liechtenstein. With prizes being awarded to the three best business plans, the winning teams will receive prize money of up to CHF 12,000.

Since this year’s Business-Plan Competition began, four  entrants have participated in training sessions aimed at imparting the basic knowledge necessary for putting together a business plan. Breakfast circles and personal coaching with the Affiliated Institute SME Centre of the University of Liechtenstein also afforded opportunities for discussions with business representatives. Eight selected teams were given the opportunity to present their business idea to a five-person jury of experts. 

Formal awards ceremony

As part of the awards ceremony on Tuesday, 11 June 2013, the three winning projects will be announced and awarded with prize money of CHF 12,000, CHF 8,000 and CHF 5,000 respectively. A talk by Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Zwiefelhofer on strengthening innovative capability within Liechtenstein as a business location will be followed by the formal awards ceremony, which he will host together with Klaus Näscher, Rector of the University of Liechtenstein, and Lothar Ritter, Rector of the NTB Interstaatliche Hochschule für Technik in Buchs.




Musical entertainment will be provided by the Liechtenstein band Snow Flake. The event will take place in the auditorium of the University of Liechtenstein from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and conclude with a drinks reception.

A broad variety of business ideas

This year’s Business-Plan Competition stood out thanks to the variety of business ideas from numerous different sectors, such as trade, crafts, gastronomy, sustainable development and the jewellery industry. All eight nominated teams have strong links to Liechtenstein, with the team’s entrepreneurs either coming from the country or planning on having their corporate headquarters in the principality.

In 2013, the jury consisted of Fritz Fahrni (jury president) – Professor Emeritus at ETH Zurich and the University of St. Gallen, Gerry Frick – GERRYFRICK Est., Reto Heeb – Junior Chamber International Liechtenstein Werdenberg, Jürgen Nigg – Liechtenstein Chamber of Trade and Commerce, and Doris Beck – [ Financial | Architectures ] AG.

Regional network

The Business-Plan Competition is sponsored by the government of the Principality of Liechtenstein, the NTB Interstaatliche Hochschule für Technik in Buchs and the University of Liechtenstein. Project partners include the START student organization, the Liechtenstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Liechtenstein Chamber of Trade and Commerce and the Junior Chamber International Liechtenstein Werdenberg.
