Habilitation represents certification by the university that the successful candidate is qualified to teach, and constitutes the highest-ranking examination of the University of Liechtenstein. The conferring of entitlement to teach is associated with the right to carry on research and teaching at the University of Liechtenstein without restriction, and to supervise and assess the progress of doctoral candidates. The teaching qualification / entitlement to teach can be acquired in those subject areas or subject combinations which are represented at the University of Liechtenstein by its professors.
The certified entitlement to teach is regarded at most universities in German-speaking countries as the prerequisite for appointment to a professorship.
