Curricula
Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture (01.09.2008)Modules
Description
Structural analysis
- Principles of statically indeterminate systems
- Introduction to structural design
- Introduction to pre-design of typical high-rising structures by integrating knowledge about primary building materials (Structural Design 2)
Lecture Goals
Based on the skills acquired in the modules Building Technology I and II and in line with the objectives of the module Building Technology III the goal of this course is to expand further on the principles of structural analysis.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:
- familiarity with statically indeterminate systems.
- knowledge about properties of primary building materials.
- ability to design simple load-bearing structures by employing these building materials.
- well-founded and integrated knowledge about structural analysis and structural design and the ability to skillfully integrate both into a coherent design project that reflects the architectural intent.
- the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and objectivity when carrying out projects.
- the ability to outline ideas, information and individual projects in a clear and precise manner visually, verbally or in a written form.
- the ability to communicate complex information with varying objectives to various target groups.
- the skills to critically evaluate statements regarding subject specific problems.
Lectures Method
Lecture followed by practical examples.
Construction site visits and building inspections.
Admission Requirements
The modules of the Bachelor's program in architecture are structured consecutively (they build on each other).
- It is recommended to take the modules Building Technology I and II prior to enrolling this course.
Literature
Course script, codes (Normenwerke SIA and Eurocode), charts
Exam Modalities
Written examination of the learning outcomes of the course
Assessment
The course has to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the single course grades:
Building Construction 3 33%
Structural Design 3 33%
Building Mechanical Systems 1 33%
