Curricula
Bachelor's degree programme in Architecture (01.09.2008)Modules
Description
Principles of structural analysis
- Introduction, forces in a plane, equilibrium conditions
- Impact on load-bearing structures, supporting reactions
- Static forces of statically determinate supports
- Stability of load-bearing structures
Lecture Goals
In line with the objectives of the module Building Technology I the goal of this course is to introduce the principles of structural analysis.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:
- understanding of static systems, the ability to calculate forces graphically and analytically in a simple system and familiarity with various types of impact and static forces in statically determinate supports.
- familiarity with the principles of building reinforcement and the ability to design a building in accordance with its overall stability.
- understanding of the principles of structural analysis and the ability to apply these skills in the context of coherent design projects.
- the ability to adequately manage time and physical resources for projects, both in terms of individual work input and as a member of a team.
- the ability to outline ideas, information and individual projects in a comprehensible manner visually, in oral or written form.
- the ability to communicate complex ideas to fellow students and instructors in a well-structured and coherent manner.
- the ability to present and evaluate arguments, information and ideas relevant to the discipline of architecture.
Lectures Method
- Lecture followed by practical examples
- Construction site visits and building inspections
Admission Requirements
- Admission requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture degree program
Literature
Course script, codes (Normenwerke SIA and Eurocode), charts
Exam Modalities
Written examination of the learning outcomes of the course
Assessment
The course has to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the single course grades:
Building Construction 1 33%
Structural Design 1 33%
Building Physics 1 33%
