Lecture Goals
Based on the skills acquired in the modules Building Technology I-V and in line with the objectives of the module Building Technology VI the goal of this course is to expand further on the principles and methods of building construction and structural design by focusing on the building material wood, its tectonic properties and the resulting architectural form.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:
- familiarity with the building material wood and its skilful use.
- the ability to demonstrate design skills appropriate for the system in the context of exercises and a semester project.
- critical understanding of historical developments and the rapid progress in timber construction witnessed today.
- well-founded and holistic knowledge about employing the building material wood in the design and building process and the ability to skillfully integrate it into a coherent design project that reflects the architectural intent and principles of sustainability.
- the ability to process, cluster and interpret a multitude of specifications and information, and apply them in the context of the design process.
- understanding about the principles of team work to jointly develop design ideas for timber structures.
- the ability to communicate complex information with varying objectives to various target groups.
- the ability to critically analyze, assess and synthesize ideas, concepts, information and topics relevant to the discipline of architecture.
- the ability to utilize various sources of information to form an opinion.

- Lecture followed by practical examples
- Construction site visits and building inspections
Admission Requirements
The modules of the Bachelor's program in architecture are structured consecutively (they build on each other).
- Successful completion of the modules Building Technology I, II and III prior to enrolment.
- It is recommended to take the modules Building Technology IV and V prior to enrolling this course.

Written examination of the learning outcomes of the course
Assessment
The course has to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the individual course grades:
