Modules
Description
Fundamentals of building construction and building materials
- Introduction to roof systems (steep and flat roof structures)
- Fundamentals of ceiling and floor structures
Lecture Goals
Based on the skills acquired in the module Building Technology I and in line with the objectives of the module Building Technology II the goal of this course is to expand further on the principles of building construction and building materials.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course each student should have the ability to demonstrate and/or work with:
- knowledge of all roof systems (steep and flat roof structures).
- familiarity with the structure and specifications of ceiling and floor systems.
- understanding of the functions of the building envelope and the ability to apply these skills in the context of simple design projects.
- the ability to represent the structure of the building envelope at a scale of 1:10.
- the ability to adequately manage time and physical resources for projects, both in terms of individual work input and as a member of a team.
- the ability to outline ideas, information and individual projects in a comprehensible manner visually, in oral or written form.
- the ability to communicate complex ideas to fellow students and instructors in a well-structured and coherent manner.
- the ability to present and evaluate subject specific arguments, information and ideas.
Qualifications
Lectures Method
Lecture followed by practical examples.
Construction site visits and building inspections.
Admission Requirements
The modules of the Bachelor's program in architecture are structured consecutively (they build on each other).
- It is recommended to take the module Building Technology I prior to enrolling this course.
Literature
Course script, codes (Normenwerke SIA)
Exam Modalities
Written examination of the learning outcomes of the course
Assessment
The course has to be passed with a sufficient grade (minimum grade of 4.0).
The module grade will be determined from the weighted average of the individual course grades:
Building Construction 2 33%
Structural Design 2 33%
Construction Physics 2 33%
Comments
Die Lehrveranstaltung muss mit einer genügenden Note bestanden werden (Mindestnote 4.0).
Die Modulnote wird aus den gewichteten Teilnoten der einzelnen Lehrveranstaltungen errechnet:
Baukonstruktion 1 33%
Tragwerkslehre 1 33%
Bauphysik 1 33%
