Corporate Foundation
Structuring Opportunities in Liechtenstein and European Developments
The 16th Liechtenstein Annual Convention on Foundation Law, taking place on November 20, 2024, will focus on the highly relevant and multifaceted topic of the "Corporate Foundation." Foundations are particularly well-suited for managing wealth succession and overseeing complex family and financial structures across generations. Additionally, the combination of a foundation and a business offers numerous structuring possibilities, which are increasingly popular in the field of corporate succession. The corporate foundation faces new questions, challenges, but also opportunities. Renowned experts from both within and outside the country will shed light on recent developments and thoroughly discuss the new requirements concerning corporate foundations.
Traditionally, the Annual Convention on Foundation Law begins with a comprehensive analysis of current jurisprudence and developments in the decision-making practices of the Foundation Supervisory Authority (STIFA). The second part of the morning program will offer a comparative legal analysis of corporate foundations, followed by an in-depth examination of the legal framework in Liechtenstein from a practical perspective. Additionally, the concept of the business foundation in Denmark will be explored in detail. The subsequent panel discussion provides an opportunity to address specific issues in the context of corporate foundations and further delve into the topics covered in the first session.
The afternoon will begin with a focus on philanthropy. Topics such as intergenerational philanthropy and impact investing, both in theory and practice, will be explored. In the following panel discussion, participants will have the opportunity to discuss current challenges and new strategies in the field of philanthropy.
The second part of the afternoon program will address selected aspects, challenges, and structuring opportunities concerning corporate foundations. The focus will initially be on the foundation as a succession instrument from the perspective of (family) businesses and the corporate foundation in the context of foundation disputes and shareholder rights. Moreover, the application of CSR standards to corporate foundations and their impact on foundation governance in an international comparison will also be discussed.

Lawyers, trustees, judges, public prosecutors, employees in banks, insurance companies and financial service providers, jurists as well as any people interested in specifically gaining an understanding of foundation law issues.
