Beschreibung
Designing and planning cities requires among other things a deep understanding of the resources and technologies that are driving them. This course therefore offers an overview of the interdependencies of different spatially significant fields with urban planning and their potentials for an integrated approach to design and strategies of regenerative urban territories. Investigating and assessing recently designed and built examples (taking into account renewable energy production and supply, agriculture, forestry, biodiversity, carbon sequestration, infrastructure, mobility, water resource management, etc.), students will understand to what extent their future practice as architects and urban designers can contribute to more sustainable and regenerative environments.
Ziele
The subject is to help gain a critical grasp of urban form and performance, link the institutional, technological and design dimensions of climate change action and empower future architects and urban designers in engaging both basic and complex design tasks at building and city scale. This is to respond to current needs in transcending traditional boundaries of building design, embracing design program, client interaction and community change from a renewable energy integration and sustainable resource management perspective.
Lernergebnisse
This hands-on course consist of lectures, presentations, in-class discussions and assignments. Along with the course, students (in groups of two) will develop illustrated essays about project proposals that can render urban territories regenerative. Students will be able to
> get a holistic approach on urban planning and design
> understand basic principles of different spatially significant fields
> assess regenerative potentials of urban design projects
> consider the limits and potentials of their role in urban development
> apply regenerative design strategies on urban territories
