Agbobloshie and E-Waste:
Environmental Challenges and Development Opportunities

This panel discussion will delve into the social, environmental, and economic challenges and opportunities associated with Agbobloshie, a community in Accra, Ghana that has become a global symbol of e-waste pollution and informal recycling. The panelists will discuss questions such as: What is Agbobloshie, and how has it become a center for e-waste recycling? How do the transportation and processing of e-waste contribute to environmental and health issues in the area? What development possibilities have been tried, and what are their outcomes? How can we promote sustainable development in the area while also supporting the livelihoods of its residents?

The panelists will share their experiences and perspectives on the perception of Agbobloshie from Europe and other parts of the world, and how it compares to the reality on the ground. They will also explore the hierarchical structures in the distribution chain, as well as the exchange between formal and informal bodies.

Additionally, the panelists will examine the relationship between Africa and Europe, and how it can be strengthened to address environmental and social challenges. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in a stimulating conversation about these complex and pressing issues.
