Beschreibung
The first part of the lecture covers the history and geographical characteristics of China. The second part focuses on China's role in the world economy as well as their political system. Recent issues of international trade policy of China and its influences on the world´s ecomomy are the main interests of this course. In detail the lecture covers:
- History
- Geographical Characteristics
- China's role in the world economy
- China's way to a market oriented economy
- Challenges and risk for China
- Challenges and risk for the world
Ziele
- Have an understanding of the political and economical system in China
- Be able to analyze current issues and debates of China's role in the world economy
- Understand and critically evaluate discussions of economics in major newspapers and magazines
- Have demonstrated their understanding in writing (term paper) and well-grounded class discussions

Slides and selected readings (articles, country-based case studies) will be available at the Moodle.
Prüfungsmodalitäten
- Written term paper of 15 to 20 pages (7'500 to 10'000 words) in relation to the topic of the course in groups of two students, with at least 66% self-contribution (70% of total assessment). A list with possible topics will be provided at the beginning of the course and on the forum
- The paper has to be handed at latest on Friday; May 31st , 2013; 12 pm (one hard copy and one electronic version - PDF on a CD) at the Zentrale Servicestelle. One electronic copy has to be sent in due time to siegfriedenglert@gmx.de.
- Presentation (15 to 20 minutes) and discussion of the term paper with the other students and the main lecturer (30% of total assessment) at the last day of the course.
