From 10 to 12 October, the 2012 SAP Global Business Transformation Summit was held in Budapest. Every year, around 300 representatives from leading companies take this event as an opportunity to discuss the challenges of transformation management. This year’s participants included CIOs, CFOs and CPOs from Coca-Cola, Philips, Unilever, ING, Samsung, Cisco, Zürich, L’Oréal, Ahlstrom, Puma and Microsoft, as well as analysts from IDC and Gartner.
Professor Jan vom Brocke presented current research results on application options of in-memory technology in retail. In-memory technology is seen as a revolutionary technology in the processing of information, as it can increase the information-processing capacity of current systems up to 100,000-fold. However, what kind of value-enhancing application options can be derived for companies has hardly been established.
At the centre of expertise for in-memory technology at the University of Liechtenstein, studies have been carried out in cooperation with leading retail companies. Interview partners included Coop and Edeka. Subsequent to Professor Jan vom Brocke’s presentation, a panel discussion was held, with Holly Fredricks, Senior Director, Global Business Application Solutions at The Coca-Cola Company, and Jan Recker, Woolworths Chair of Retail Innovation at Queensland University of Technology in Australia, among its participants.
The Institute of Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein is one of the first institutes to thoroughly investigate the potential uses of in-memory technology. As early as last year, studies were conducted in cooperation with Hilti. Additional studies are in progress.
