Architect Erich Stolz’s winning project is for the ‘Haus der Musik’ [‘House of Music’] in Innsbruck.
An ‘open house’ approach
‘Situated at one of the most important interfaces in the urban network, the House of Music is conceived as an open house. The square practically flows into the building, and together with the Tyrol State Theatre this gives rise to a municipal centre surrounded by the Hofgarten park, the Congress House, the Hofburg Palace, the Hofkirche church, the Museum of Folk Art and the university,’ said Mr Strolz, describing his project. Chaired by Ernst Beneder, the jury’s comments on the winning entry singled out for praise the ‘clear cubature’ and ‘compact volume’ of the design.

Leaving traces in Liechtenstein
In his teaching at the University of Liechtenstein, lecturer Erich Strolz has been repeatedly associated with culture and cultural buildings. For example, he and his architecture students have made an intensive study of the historic city centre of Schaan. Currently he is working with his Architecture BA students on themes connected with the alpine landscape of the Montafon valley in Vorarlberg.
