On 25 April, the University of Liechtenstein will be hosting the annual trust conference organized by the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trust Law at the Institute for Financial Services. The programme of this event, which is held in English, focuses on aspects of beneficiary rights and their enforcement, as well as on aspects of international law.

The programme of this year’s trust conference opens with a lecture on the current legal situation regarding beneficiary rights in Liechtenstein. This will be followed by an analysis of the extent to which Liechtenstein trust law is applicable in Switzerland. As a result of Liechtenstein’s trust law deriving from the legal systems of English-speaking countries, the third lecture is dedicated to an analysis of the legal situation concerning beneficiary rights in these jurisdictions.

Trust law: an international comparison

The second part of the event pays particular attention to beneficiary rights in US-American and New Zealand trust law in comparison to Liechtenstein’s regulations. A lecture on the rights of the beneficiaries of a trusteeship agreement in Luxembourg makes clear how other continental European legal systems deal with the legal issues in question. The programme also features discussion of the enforcement of beneficiary rights and the options for alternative dispute settlement.

A gathering of global experts

This year’s trust conference has once again been able to attract internationally renowned scientists and practitioners as speakers. Alongside experts from the region – Dr. Ernst Walch from Walch & Schurti (Vaduz), Peter Pexton from the Ganten Group (Vaduz), Professor Hans Rainer Künzle from Kendris Ltd. in Zurich and Professor Francesco A. Schurr from the University of Liechtenstein – Liechtenstein will be hosting speakers from around the world: Justice David Hayton LLB from the Caribbean Court of Justice (the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago), Professor Stewart Sterk from the Cardozo School of Law (New York), Professor Tony Angelo from the Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand) and Professor Corrado Malberti from the University of Luxembourg.

A practice-orientated exchange

Participants can pose their questions and discuss issues with the speakers immediately following the respective presentations as well as in the concluding podium discussions.
