‘Nobel Laureate Alvin Roth’s lecture looked into the question why certain brands or transactions – for example, trade in organs, same-sex marriage, consumption of horse flesh or even ‘dwarf tossing’ – are banned in some societies and not in others, and how this can be explained (if indeed there is an explanation) by economic theories.

The second highlight was the opening address of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, who urged scientists to integrate findings from disciplines like psychology and sociology in their theories, in order to make them closer to reality.’
