Don't Tell Switzerland, But I Fell in Love with Liechtenstein

When I was thinking about my Erasmus, I knew I wanted to go far away, to somewhere that would give me a change of scenery and leave a mark on me both personally and professionally. Liechtenstein, a small country nestling in the heart of the Alps, seemed like the ideal destination. Its unique geographical location, between Switzerland and Austria, its rich culture and unspoilt environment promised me a unique experience.

The idea of leaving my usual comforts to immerse myself in a new country and a new culture gave me both excitement and apprehension. I've always been a globetrotter, used to travelling and adapting to new environments. But at the same time, I couldn't help feeling a certain amount of uncertainty. How would I adapt to an environment so different from anything I'd ever known? How would I make friends? How would I cope with life away from my loved ones?

As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the warm welcome I received from the people of Liechtenstein. Their kindness and open-mindedness made it easy for me to settle in and quickly feel at home. I was used to staying in youth hostels and having intercultural experiences, so I naturally found my place in my shared flat with international students. Sharing meals, moments of relaxation and activities with people from all backgrounds has been an incredible source of personal enrichment.

Living with students from all over the world has opened up my horizons and developed my tolerance and intercultural understanding. Every exchange, every discussion was an opportunity to learn and grow. I discovered new customs, new perspectives and new ways of seeing the world.

Of course, living in a community was not always easy. Differences in culture, daily routines and timetables have sometimes led to friction. But these challenges have also been opportunities for learning and personal growth! I've learned to communicate better, to show empathy and to resolve conflicts constructively.

Moving from a busy, cosmopolitan university to the smaller, more intimate University of Liechtenstein has been an absolutely amazing experience! The University of Liechtenstein is an institution renowned for its academic excellence and stimulating learning environment. I was really lucky to benefit from more individual attention from professors, more focused networking opportunities and a warm and welcoming academic atmosphere. I was also able to take part in numerous activities and events organised by the university, which enabled me to meet new people and become fully integrated into student life.

Liechtenstein, a country of breathtaking natural beauty, offered me an unforgettable stay. I had the privilege of exploring its majestic mountains, picturesque villages and crystal-clear lakes, which amazed me at every turn. My excursions extended to the neighbouring regions of Switzerland and Austria, equally charming and welcoming, where I was able to discover new horizons.

Vaduz is a safe and pleasant city where you can stroll without fear. I absolutely recommend visiting the incredible Lake Gamprin, Triesenberg and Malbun. They are natural sites of exceptional beauty. The German-speaking part of Switzerland is full of emblematic villages that you simply have to see, such as Heididorf in Maienfeld, Stein am Rhein and Appenzell. And don't forget the Vorarlberg region, which borders Lake Constance and is home to charming towns such as Lindau and Bregenz.

My Erasmus in Liechtenstein was an absolutely unforgettable experience that has had a profound effect on my life. I got to know myself, develop my ability to adapt and appreciate the richness of cultural diversity. I also made lasting friendships that will stay with me for the rest of my life. This adventure has opened up new perspectives and given me the confidence to take on new challenges.

If you're considering the Erasmus adventure, I urge you to take the plunge! It's a unique experience that will enable you to develop both personally and professionally. Don't be afraid of the unknown and dare to venture out of your comfort zone, be open-minded and make the most of every moment. Liechtenstein is waiting for you, ready to reveal its charms and offer you an unforgettable stay. You won't regret it!
