On Thursday, 26 April 2012, the trust conference on the topic of “Structures for private wealth preservation”, organized by the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trust Law, will be held at the University of Liechtenstein.

As protection instruments for private wealth preservation, trusts are the most frequently implemented vehicles worldwide. With this growing demand, however, competition among the approximately 30 legal systems regarding the establishment of wealth preservation trusts is also increasing. In order to keep up with the competition intrinsic to these legal systems, the Liechtenstein practice has to examine the latest developments in this area in detail. At the University of Liechtenstein’s trust conference, the contributions of internationally renowned practitioners and scientists explore the essential questions of Liechtenstein structures and compare these with relevant models from the English and the US law systems. Subsequent to these speeches and during a panel discussion, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. The event will be held in German and English (simultaneous interpretation will be available).

Speeches relevant to practice
H. H. Prince Michael von und zu Liechtenstein, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Industrie- und Finanzkontor,  and Dr. Stefan Wenaweser, lawyer and partner at the law firm Marxer & Partner, will be speaking on the topic of “Liechtenstein practice” during the first part of the event. Professor Paul Matthews from King’s College London , and Professor Karen Boxx, Professor of Law at the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, will go on to explore the topic of wealth preservation from the perspective of the common law system. In his presentation, Professor Francesco A. Schurr, who holds the Chair of Company, Foundation and Trust Law at the University of Liechtenstein, will be focusing on laws and morality of wealth preservation, a topic that will be discussed in greater depth in a panel discussion entitled “The beginning of the end of the privilege of anonymity?”

The trust conference is supported by the VP Bank Foundation, the Liechtenstein Association of Professional Trustees and the Liechtenstein Chamber of Lawyers.
