University of Liechtenstein team from the wins 2nd place in the preliminary round of the CFA Research Challenge

Students from the Master's degree programme in Finance at the University of Liechtenstein were able to secure second place in the Swiss finals of the CFA Research Challenge. For the past 13 years, finance students from all over the world have been competing in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. This year, the final took place virtually due to Corona.

Since last fall, the 4-member team of the University of Liechtenstein met regularly to learn and implement the work steps of a financial analyst. The students were supported throughout the fall semester by an internal faculty advisor as well as an experienced mentor from the CFA Society Switzerland.

Strong performance by the University of Liechtenstein

At the Swiss finals, ten teams of three to five master's students each from the Universities of Basel, Fribourg, Geneva, Neuchâtel, Lausanne, St. Gallen, Zurich, Liechtenstein, as well as the Università della Svizzera Italiana and the ZHAW competed before a panel of experienced finance professionals. A presentation and case study on a company were evaluated. In 2022, the Swiss company SIG Combibloc (SIGN SW), headquartered in Neuhausen in the canton of Schaffhausen, was the focus of the young analysts.

For the first time, a team from the University of Liechtenstein was able to qualify for the next elimination round, a great testament to the quality of the Master's program in Finance. The two best-placed teams from the Universities of Lausanne and Liechtenstein will take part in the EMEA elimination round. This will take place virtually in April and May 2022.

Over 6400 students worldwide

CFA Institute, the global professional association for investment managers, has been organizing the annual research challenge since 2007.

Research Challenge since 2007, with over 6400 students from over 1100 universities in 90 countries taking part worldwide. In Switzerland, together with Liechtenstein, this time 34 teams from 10 universities or universities of applied sciences with a total of 147 students competed in the preliminary rounds, which is again a record participation and shows the great interest of the students and the universities.
