New accolade for habilitation thesis

At an official ceremony in Berlin on 25 September 2013, Professor Dirk Zetzsche was awarded with the research prize by Stiftung Kapitalmarktforschung für den Finanzstandort Deutschland for his habilitation thesis.
The prize, endowed with EUR 10,000, was presented to the holder of the Propter Homines Chair of Banking and Securities Law at the University of Liechtenstein by the president of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Following the Finanzkompass 2012, the innovation prize of the Hamburg Financial Centre Association, and the Deutsches Aktieninstitut’s university prize, this is now the third distinction awarded for his habilitation thesis on the topic “Principles of collective investment”.

Practice-oriented research in the area of securities law

Stiftung Kapitalmarktforschung für den Finanzstandort Deutschland was founded in 2004 by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) in Frankfurt. It awards a prize for outstanding, practice-oriented research work addressing topics such as capital markets and regulatory law, with a particular focus on securities markets. The awarded work should contribute to the strengthening of the German financial region by analysing the areas of weakness and offering suggestions for improvements. 

Nominations of eligible work can be made by all chairs of German universities engaged in the fields of banking and capital markets, and the KfW, as benefactor. The independent jury consists of members of the foundation’s board.

Professor Dirk Zetzsche, LL. M. (Toronto), holds the Chair of Banking and Securities Law at the University of Liechtenstein, which was created by the Propter Homines foundation in 2011. He is also one of the directors of the Center for Business and Corporate Law at the legal faculty of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

Among his key research areas are European asset management law as well as banking and securities law. The habilitation thesis itself is set to be published in 2014 by Mohr Siebeck.
