On June, 22th, 2011 the Knowledge Management Award 2011 was presented  to Prof. Dr. Stefan Güldenberg, Chair in International Management und Head of the Institute for Entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein. The Knowledge Management Award is founded by the Knowledge Management Austria Society for special merits in the science of knowledge, knowledge politics, and knowledge management. The Knowledge Management Award should set an example, and make achievements more visible. The prize was awarded by Dr. Andreas Brandner, Managing Director of Knowledge Management Austria, at the conference “Agenda Knowledge” at the Technical University Vienna. Among others, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber, the Federation of Austrian Industries (IV) and the Federal Ministry of Science and Research support the Austrian conference for knowledge and politics. Furthermore, Knowledge Management Austria partners with the Vienna University of Economics and Business in knowledge management education.

The first award was presented to Ursula Schneider-Hendrich in 2009. In 2010, Charles Savage was honored and in addition the Knowledge Management Award - for the first time - was presented to an international organization, which has committed itself to a livable, capable and sustainable knowledge society. In 2010, this prize was awarded to the IAEA and in 2011 to the UNESCO. The “Pillar of Knowledge” was created by the Tyrolean artist Helmut Margreiter as a “Statue of Liberty of the Knowledge Society”. The creative tension of knowing and not-knowing, of preservations and innovation and of iden¬tity and change, will ignite the spark of freedom and responsibility. Currently, the original statue is standing in front of the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
