- Alexander Pfanzelt studied architecture at the University of Innsbruck and theUniversity of Texas at Arlington. Graduated with honors in 2006.
From 2011 until 2015 he was University Assistant (PostDoc) at the Institut für Gestaltung Studio1. From 2007 - 2011he worked as a Research Assistant at the institute.In 2011 he finished his PhD Beyond Use - Phenomena embedded in abandoned objects in the Alpine Territory. Focusing on disused structure he set up a catalogue of new typologies regarding the connection between building and nature. A publication about his work is in progress.
Other interests include network systems, mapping, diagrams and the alpine territory as a laboratory, to study relations between object and nature and their translation in various media. Besides teaching at Studio1 he regularly teaches international workshops, most recently in Turkey and Italy. In 2007 he relaunched the Institut für Gestaltung/Studio1 research project Alpenbuegeln, originally initiated in 1999 as a series of international graduate workshops, focussing on the Obergurgl community as a case study for the development of alpine skiing in relation to climate change. He is a member of the scientific committee for the Alpine Forschungsstelle Obergurgl, AFO of the University of Innsbruck, Austria‚ and since 2006 co-founder of casati, an architectural research group with Andreas Moling and Simon Oberhammer. Since 2011 he is running his own office as pfanzelt architekten in Lechbruck am See with projects in different scales in Germany and Austria.
He is a chartered architect in the Chamber of Architects Bavaria, Germany since 2008. In 2009 he initiated the project „Vermessung der Freizeitbrachen“, together with Simon Oberhammer, supported by the government of Tyrol for art in public space.
Since 2014 Alexander is member of the „Deutscher Werkbund" and since 2011 of Architekturforum Allgäu.
