On 4 October 2012, the Institute for Entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein, in collaboration with the Huber-Hus museum and the “Lech Living Space Initiative” by the Raiffeisenbank Lech am Arlberg, will be presenting a special book project.

For their book Bergtee, publishers Dr. Barbara Fuchs, Susanne Grasser and Elisabeth Burtscher allowed the founders of the local “Bergtee” initiative, herb collectors from Vorarlberg and students from the University of Liechtenstein to have their say. The result was a remarkable insight into a local initiative in the Great Walser Valley which produces and sells an original local product, “Bergtee”, which literally translates as “mountain tea”. The production of the tea based on traditional, local practical knowledge and numerous activities related to its production have led to new levels of self-awareness in the valley and a greater appreciation of local resources. The “Bergtee” project supports the preservation of biodiversity and sustainable regional development and thus sets an excellent example for entrepreneurial endeavours by and in local communities.

Local practical knowledge passed on
The Bergtee book tells the story of how the initiative was born and its philosophy, and applies scientific approaches to reflect on its social, environmental and economic perspectives. Overall, it was important to the publishers that the book revealed the significance of local communities and their knowledge of sustainable regional development. In addition, the book also aims to encourage those with knowledge in other regions to preserve and practise their knowledge, including in conjunction with business activities.

The book launch will take place at the Raiffeisenbank Lech, on Thursday, 4 October 2012, from 2 p.m. After a welcome address by the chairman of the board  of the Raiffeisenbank Lech, Markus Walch, and the manager of the Huber-Hus museum, Birgit Ortner, Dr. Barbara Fuchs from the Institute for Entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein will discuss the scientific importance of local initiatives for sustainable regional development. This is followed by a reading of passages from the book. At the subsequent drinks reception, the publishers, project initiators and herb collectors will be available for informal conversations.
